Storyboard

Creating the storyboard had its pros and cons for me. It proved difficult because it was hard deciding when a shot ended and what to do next. There is one scene in our storyboard where the camera is an extreme close up on the main characters eyes. They start off closed then open. My partner and I had a challenging time deciding if we were supposed to have them closed in one shot on the storyboard then open in the next shot or to make it all one. Along with figuring out all the camera angles and everything that went into the mise-en-scene. It is hard to determine what will be put into the scene before filming. Obviously, there is room to fix it. According the article about storyboarding, "Storyboarding is flexible. It is comprehensive. And it allows a group to generate a lot of ideas. Its only major drawback is that it takes a lot of time. In contrast to brainstorming, which is best used with a narrowly defined problem, storyboarding is ideal for solving complex problems - not only for providing solutions, but also for defining different aspects of a problem." Our storyboard is net set-in stone yet. I agree with the article on taking a lot of time. That is another con to storyboarding. It took my partner and I several hours of work of several days to complete it and that was only for 2 minutes of film. The biggest pro to storyboarding is that now we have a visual of what we want from our film. We know the shots we want to do, and we know what we want our characters doing. It creates more structure instead of just winging the film whenever we decide to start.
